Billie Piper and Amadu Sowe were photographed having brunch at a cafe in West Hollywood on 5 July 2005. The archive images show them seated at a table with plates of food and glasses of water. Piper wore jeans and flip-flops with her hair tied back.
The photograph was taken during a pivotal year in Piper's acting career. The revived Doctor Who had begun on BBC One that March, with Piper starring as Rose Tyler opposite Christopher Eccleston's Doctor. The series made her one of British television's most recognisable performers.
Piper had also filmed the horror feature Spirit Trap shortly before starting work on Doctor Who. Co-starring Alsou, Luke Mably and Sam Troughton, the film was released in the United Kingdom in August 2005.
